Primary Strategy
The primary stage makes up tier one on the framework which includes 80% of the overall students. Ideas of strategies for this particular group would include school wide expectations. For example, Harriet bishop uses the BARK expectations throughout their entire school. These are expectations that all the students, kindergarten through fifth grade, are expected to follow these rules. The BARK expectations stand for, be prepared, act responsibly, respect everything and everyone, and keep safe. There are posters throughout the entire school and they have specific expectations under each letter for all the different areas of the school. This includes the cafeteria, hallway, playground, bathroom, and even the classroom.
Secondary Strategy
The secondary strategy makes up tier two on the framework which includes 15-20% of the overall students. Several different strategies’ for this particular group would include mentoring, coaching, and daily progress. Examples would include, check in and check out tickets and tickets or tokens that serve as incentives for pro social behaviors. These strategies should be customized in order to be culturally competent, person-centered, and age appropriate.
Tertiary Strategy
This is the final tier on the framework that only makes up 5% of the overall students. These strategies will be more focused towards the high risk behavior students. A few strategies would include Non-violent Crisis Prevention and CPI, or Crisis Prevention. These two prevention plans can help uncover patterns in the student’s behavior and it can maximize the safety for all. The prevention plans help teachers avoid unwanted behaviors from students and it helps them safely control the behavior if one does happen.
